It was a great success! 50 businessmen-to-be coming from 4 FORTH research Institutes and 3 Universities in Crete, the Crete Science and Technology Park, as well as from 5 new technology based firms and technology brokers attended the seminar co-organised by LIFT and IRC HELP-FORWARD in Heraklion. The seminar aimed at highlighting the main issues faced by researchers who created a company from research results and raised funds successfully. In particular, it provided an overview of the characteristics of different sources of innovation finance, the different players involved (e.g. banks, seed- and venture capital firms, business angels?) and the financial decision making process. The seminar stimulated active participation and a lively discussion on a hot topic for the research world of today: the commercialisation of the RTD results. The seminar contained presentations by: JC de Tauzia (LIFT office, LU) presented the whole process from the RTD stage to commercialisation (business plan, contents and function, sources of funding, etc). Hans Manhaeve of Q-Star Test NV, BE and Guido Braccini of Hi-Flier, IT, presented their experiences in the creation of a business out of RTD results. V. Tsakalos, of IRC HELP-FORWARD, GR, outlined the features of the national funding scheme to be announced by the GSRT on supporting the creation of spin-off companies.
