The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas acknowledging the need to accelerate efforts to combat climate crisis and work towards the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) became member and partner of the EIT Climate Knowledge and Innovation Community (EIT Climate KIC). The EIT Climate KIC is funded by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT).
PRAXI Network and UNESCO Chair on Futures Research coordinated on behalf of the FORTH the overall initiative.
EIT Climate KIC’s goal is to address climate change through innovation. Its activities and programmes aim at the creation of prosperous, inclusive and climate resilient societies based on circular economy and zero carbon emissions. EIT Climate KIC is the largest public-private partnership at a European level aiming to address the challenges arising from climate change by bringing together large and small companies, scientific institutions and universities, city authorities and other public bodies, start-ups, and students.
“We are truly delighted that FORTH joins EIT Climate KIC family. Today more than ever before, research should embrace sustainable development, and contribute decisively towards addressing and reversing the effects of climate change. FORTH will assist in the dissemination and promotion of EIT Climate KIC goals in Greece. I firmly believe that Greek researchers have undertaken important scientific work in domains directly related to sustainable development. FORTH’s participation offers a timely opportunity to communicate the relevant Greek research and develop new partnerships at a national, regional and European level with a view to tackling climate change through research and innovation” highlights FORTH’s President, Professor Nektarios Tavernarakis.
It should be noted that UNESCO Chair on Futures Research, hosted in FORTH/PRAXI Network participates already in the implementation of a project funded by the EIT Climate KIC in the context of Deep Demonstrations programme, which aims at systems transformation to tackle climate change through innovation. The project entitled “Futures Literacy across the Deep Demonstrations” aims to co-create and implement processes that introduce, develop and actively apply the capability called Futures Literacy to support climate-related social, business, technological innovation, and systems' transformation.
