Information about the programme

Internship

1st semester

Participants have the opportunity to undertake an internship at the end of the first semester, either by carrying out research in Scottish Association for Marine Science laboratories or by completing a short internship with one of the project partners based on the west coast of Scotland, such as Xanthella Ltd or Scottish Sea Farms.

2nd semester

During the 2nd semester, based at the University of Crete, students undertake a 6-week internship in Greece. They can work in a laboratory of the University or work in the field with companies such as the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research or Nireus Aquaculture.

Placement

After the end of the programme, participants have the opportunity of a six-month dissertation at a partner of their choice.

Students may conduct their research in any country in Europe, including the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS-UHI) laboratories, the University of Nantes and the University of Crete, or at one of the programme’s industry partners.

Some students have been based at organisations such as ICM-CSIC in Spain, the University of Bergen, the Technical University of Denmark or the Fisheries Institute in China.

The research dissertation semester gives our students a valuable opportunity to enhance their remediation skills and work experience.

Professional Rehabilitation

Throughout the EMJMD ACES+ programme, students have the opportunity to improve their skills as well as expand their contacts through the programme’s large network in the aquaculture industry. These are achieved through the internship and placement that participants are required to complete at the end of the programme.
