SpaceVantage is a new European initiative aimed at strengthening the skills of the space-sector workforce by fostering a strong and effective link between education and industry.
The project officially launched in November 2025 and is implemented by 10 partners from 8 European Union countries, under the Erasmus+ Programme, with a shared vision to enhance existing skills and develop new ones that respond to the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s Space Economy.
The project includes the participation of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) through the PRAXI Network, contributing actively to the connection between research and innovation, entrepreneurship, and market needs. The involvement of the PRAXI Network strengthens the project’s role in knowledge transfer, market needs identification, and the development of effective education and training solutions.
About the project
The European space sector-particularly downstream applications such as Earth Observation, Satellite Communications (SatCom), and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)-is evolving rapidly, creating new demands for skills, professional profiles, and educational approaches.
SpaceVantage addresses these challenges by integrating:
- digital skills,
- green skills,
- deep-tech skills,
into education and training systems across Europe, while developing sustainable collaboration models between education and the labour market.
Project Objectives
The main objectives of SpaceVantage are to:
- align education and training with real space industry needs,
- develop future-ready skills for the Space Economy,
- modernise curricula and training methods,
- create cooperation models between education providers and enterprises,
- promote diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities,
- strengthen Europe’s competitiveness in the space sector.
Activities and Interventions
Within the framework of the project, SpaceVantage:
- strengthens structured collaboration between higher education institutions, vocational education and training providers, and space industry stakeholders,
- promotes the renewal of curricula through the integration of work-based learning, hands-on experience, and industry-driven challenges addressing real market needs,
- produces evidence, tools, and policy recommendations to support skills strategies and education reform within the European space ecosystem,
- encourages the participation of women and underrepresented groups in studies and professions related to the space sector.
Giving Space Companies a Voice: SpaceVantage EU Survey
As part of the project, the SpaceVantage EU Survey is being carried out—a pan-European survey addressed to companies active in downstream space applications. The aim of the survey is to map skills gaps and shortages in the downstream space sector and provide evidence-based insights on labour market and skills needs.
The survey is open to all the organisations employing space-related professionals. The space companies are encouraged to respond to the present survey. This includes companies that build and launch satellites, use Earth observation data, and integrated space applications.
🔗 Participate in the SpaceVantage EU Survey
Completing the survey takes 10–15 minutes and it remains open until 15 February 2026.
