Cerebrovascular Diseases (CVD) represent a major public health burden in Europe, particularly affecting the Eastern European countries and Widening regions.
The CHAngeing project brings together a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral framework, aiming to transform and interconnect two quadruple-helix-based excellence ecosystems located in Southern Europe (Portugal and Greece).
This will be achieved through science-based interventions, which include:
- Promoting healthy lifestyles, supported by the Mediterranean diet culture, with the goal of preventing CVD;
- Improving stroke patient rehabilitation through health technologies and innovative approaches.
The objectives of CHAngeing are aligned with the outcomes of the call, supported by the Smart Specialization Strategy (RIS3) of both regions, and are expected to generate significant impact within and between the two Excellence Hubs, as they aim to:
- Strengthen the excellence of both hubs as poles of attraction for new talents;
- Develop a common Research & Innovation (R&I) strategy on ageing research, accompanied by action and investment plans;
- Promote a culture of cross-sectoral collaboration in research, innovation, and student training, both within and across regions;
- Build strong links between research and business, addressing innovation gaps and fostering knowledge transfer and job creation;
- Implement pilot actions and demonstrators promoting healthy lifestyles and improved stroke rehabilitation;
- Communicate, disseminate, and exploit the project’s results effectively, ensuring high societal impact and long-term sustainability.
The CHAngeing project will act as a catalyst of excellence, building upon the success of established flagship initiatives in both regions, such as Teaming for Excellence, ERA Chairs, Twinning, ERCs, REGPOT, AAL, and EIT Health.
